On Sunday, March 1, at 1 pm, Liam McKone will present some high points of the centuries of turmoil and bloodshed of \u201cthe Cause\u201d in the Community Room of the South Burlington Public Library at 180 Market Street.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Anglo-Norman invasion of 1169 began 800 years of British influence over the Irish marked by repeated rebellions, Union under the monarchy in 1803, a resurgence of nationalism in the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century, and finally the Rising and tragic civil war that saw the nation divided. A particular emphasis will be placed on the militant Fenian Brotherhood since Vermont twice was used as the base for attacks on Canada after the American Civil War, part of the fight against the British Empire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This event is sponsored by the Burlington Irish Heritage Festival and is free to the public, but attendance is limited to 60, the capacity of the room.
